In good conditions, these weapons are valuable pieces of antique collectors. Others require a little work can often be cleaned and restored by enthusiasts. Molten metal or wooden blanks, which may be in the form of replacing damaged or missing people, are available from specialist suppliers. Even the old gunpowder explodes, so make sure it is being repaired any weapon is not loaded. Insert the stick, or piece of wood in the barrel for see if there are any blockages. If so, remove it with a modern shotgun cleaning rod that has a screw top, or use a regular steel screw soldered to a piece of stiff wire. Screw the rod gently into the blockage and pull it like a cork. Rinse the barrel with hot water and dry.

To dismantle the weapon, first half-cock, and then remove the screw that holds the key (the gun) or the hammer (in the kind of percussion) and slide it off. Unscrew deck pan screw shaft and the spring below the pot, remove the parts. Unscrew the bolts or screws holding the lock and remove plaque. Screwdrivers may need several: the blade must be adjusted to each screw or bolt slot not just for the screw or bolt cutter. If you are difficult to remove, using a bit of penetrating oil will do the trick. To dismantle a flintlock mechanism, loosen the four screws holding the mobile searspring Sear, and the flange. Compress mainspring (in a small hand screw), remove the screw in the spring and remove the spring. The pin at the rear of the mainspring is dedicated to the lock plate and the other end of spring is dedicated to the tip of the tumbler.

Remove the rust with sandpaper or fine powder. Be sure to remove all abrasive powder after cleaning. Smears of all parts with petroleum jelly and reassemble. Click the glass to the firing position for the end of the spring is on it. Put the cock and pulls it half of the tilted position so that the toe cup compresses the mainspring. Replace the rest of the parts in reverse order of removal.

To clean the barrel, first remove it from the population. A metal of the barrel – the pin – is running in the population. Remove the screws from Tang and retention bands or pins. The trigger guard, butt cap and ramrod pipes are screwed or nailed and should be removed with extreme care. If the screws do not yield to penetration by oil, leave them alone – to be a job for an antique restorer to punch out. Barrels and other metal parts can be cleaned with a mixture oil and paraffin. Re-polish all parts with finer and finer abrasives, ending with emery paper or crocus jewelers. Some barrels may have been blue to avoid oxidation and special liquid bluing can be purchased at a gun shop. Try not to leave fingerprints on the gun as this will cause oxidation.

Clean the population with steel wool and linseed oil. If the population is broken, repair with epoxy resin mixed with a paste of colored sawdust game. If the population beyond minor repairs, a new reservation can be molded with a completely new piece of wood. Small dents in the stock can be extracted by use a hot steam iron. Place a cloth over the dent and applying the hot iron.

Powder flasks were held in hundreds of designs and materials. However, most were made in ancient jars pear-shaped and made of tin, brass and Britannia metal. Metal bottles were usually made in two halves welded yes. If the seam is separated, find out what the alloy is flask before attempting to re-weld it. A simple test is to put a few drops of water in a beaker and add an equal number of drops of nitric acid, which can be obtained from a chemist. Put a drop of solution on the metal to reveal the color. Red-brown indicates bronze, brass, yellow and yellow-red, dark gray, bright tin and silver, gray, Britannia metal. To polish antique flask, using the proper technique for the material it is made. Many have bottles of fine dust and detailed engravings, etchings or engravings that give them their unique appearance. An antique pistol without coincidence or a jar of specific powder loses its appeal when antique collectors are looking to add to your collection.
